ROBERT B. SHORT Director of Planning Corporation of the Town of Whitby with a dream FROM PAGE 14 that December, Bryan turned to Paul Godfrey, publisher of the Toronto Sun and one of the founding members of the Herbie Fund, for help. The fund was founded in 1979 and helps children age 8 to 18 who require specialized treatment available only at the Hospital for Sick Children. "Thank God for the Herbie Fund," says Bryan. The fund will pay for the stay at the hospital and medical treatment while Bryan, along with friends and relatives, is now raising funds for the trip to Canada and accommodation although he may stay in Whitby with Bryan. "I am just waiting for an admission date," says Bryan. The delay is due to a backlog for useage of specialized scanners. But when she does go down to pick up Hopeton, Bryan says "it is me who is going to pick him up, no one else. "Hopeton is such an emotional boy. I have grown very fond of him. You know, wherever I take Hopeton's story, there is nothing but open hearts." One of those groups to hear Hopeton's story and help is the Canadian Jamaican Club, which on Saturday, Dec. 5 will hold a dance at which time they will present a cheque to the Herbie Fund on behalf of Hopeton. Tickets are $25 a person -- d with the dance being held at the YWCA at 199 Centre St. S., Oshawa. Donations can also be made through the Jamaican Self Help Organization in Toronto or through the Herbie Fund.
