Free Press photo BuilIding slows i*n November With the arrivai of winter, construction in Whitby seems to be slowing down as evident by the monthly building permit report. The report, issued monthly by the Town's public works department, shows only $3.1 million worth of building permits were issued during November. "It was slow beca use November is a winter month. But I'm still happy with the figures," said Mayor Bob Attersley. As of the end of November, the Town has issued $124,018,589 in permits, surpassing the 1986 record of $115 million. "We should hit between $130 and $135 million by the end of the year," said Attersley. In November the Town issued $2.4-million worth of residential permits; $102,100, commercial permits; $594,000, industrial per- mits and $23,000, institutional per- mits. Also during November, the Town collected $20,691 in permit fees bringing the yearly total to $782,310. Rteturn those plates A Whitby mnan got a surprise recently when he received a parking ticket containing the number of a licence plate he had thrown in the garbage two years ago. Police say someone found the plate and is now using it on their vehicle. Police advise motorists they should return licence plates to the Ministry of Transportation when they are no longer needed. (2) The main, north f acade doorway and aIl the north and south block windows retain their original glass panes and intact wood elements. (3) The late century treillage porch is a good example of the prefabricated production during the 1800's. (4) The integral carniage house with its double doors is an interesting feature of the original design. (5) The newel caged staircase, window and door casings, doors on the ground and second floors, and baseboard mouldings throughout the interior of the north block display exceptional craftmanship in fabrication and tigraining" of the simulated wood finish. (6) The outhouse, an original feature of the property, displays many fine and delightful features f rom the copper plated barrel vault roof, to the trough access hatch. (7) Sufficient evidence remains of the f inely corbelled chimneys of the north block and the wooden hearth to reconstruct the hearth and chimney of the south block kitchen.
