DURHAM The Whitby minor bantam B team entered its second tour- nament on Nov. 27, 28 and 29 in Fort Erie. The first game saw Peacock Sports go down to defeat 8-2 against Chingacousy in a hard-checking and body-slamming game against a major bantam team. The second game against an equally strong team gave Whitby a second defeat, to Thorold 7-2. Whitby then tied the host team, Fort Erie, in a well-played game by both teams. With the goals against, Peacock Sports was eliminated from round-robin vlav. Good effort by the players and outstanding goaltending by Danny Ladouceur and Shayne Keddy prevented higher scores against Whitby. Reps take consolation The Ladies Auxiliary minor novice reps captured the con- solation award at the Pickering major novice tournament. The team is made up of boys 7 and 8 who had to compete against 9- year-olds at this tournament. Victories over Unionville and Ajax, and the'Unionville again in the finals, captured the honors for Whitby. Tournament goals were scored by Gray (4), Johnston (3), Kerr (3), Haynes, Bryant, Duncan, Vinent and Crouch. Prior to the tournament the Whitby team extended their league play unbeaten string by nipping Pickering 2-1. Paul Gray scored with only nine seconds remaining while the other goal went to Mark Haynes. Whitby remains in first place with an 8-0-1 record. On Nov. 26, the Optimist club won a dual meet with the Port Perry club. On Nov. 28, in the Dunbarton in- vitational tournament, Brendan Johnson was second in the 84-lb. division. Johnson, a Gr. 8 student at E.A. Fairman, posted the result despite being two to three years younger than high school opponen- ts. Calnay was fifth and Robitaille sixth in the tournament. Whitby rink runner-up in bonspiel A Tam-Heather rink skipped by Barb Fernandez won the Attersley Tire ladies bonspiel on Dec. 2. A Whitby rink, made up of skip Pam McArthur, vice Mary Lynn Mackay, second Heather Miller and lead Carole Spellen, was run- ner-up. Taking second prize in the early draw was the Whitby rink of skip Marilyn Wood, vice Pat Gibson, second Jan Palmer and lead Marleen Shaw. Second prize winner in the late draw was the Annandale rink of skip Ivy Thompson, vice Clair Cram, second Chris Shannon and lead Dorothy Nemeth. Winning the one-game high in the early draw was the Whitby rink of skip Betty Hollinger, vice Audrey Sharman, second Joan Nicholson and lead Alyce Kunetsky. In ladies afternoon curling for the Jock and Mary Spragge trophy, fir- st draw winner was a rink skipped by Pam McArthur. Vice was Valerie Elmhurst, second Monica Duquette and lead Cathy Mowbray. In the same competition, held at Ajax High School, Robert Robitaille was fifth in the 125-lb. class while Simon Wright was seventh in the 110-lb. division.
