Conuitee says no to Participaction The Town. of' Whitby sbould respectfully decline an invitation from the Town of Ajax to par- ticipate in the 1988 Participaction Challenge scheduled for Wed- nesday, May 25, operations corn- mittee decided Monday. But flot ail members of commit- tee were happy with the decision. The competitien involves residents of varlous comynunities participatiiig in 15 minutes of physical activity whiceh is recorded by a municipality., The municipality with the highest nurn- ber of participants would win the challenge.. However, committee learned that the event would require two fuil-timne staff memnbers to coor- dinate staff members the Town are unable to spare. But that explanation did flot sit well with councillor Marcel Brunelle who argued that the OPE challenge could. be passed on to, several sports organizations in town. "We need to do more than write this off. The Town of Whitby is more than this council," 'said Bruneile. But committee'chairman Joe Bugelli responded that Ajax issued the challenge to the Town of Whitby so Whitby council must respond. "'This is more of a contest. You are talking tbousands of dollars -for this," said Bugeui., Committee decided, to decline the challenge. The reconmendation goes to -Whitby ýcouncil ex Mon- day night. .Diane Macfarlane has left as administrator at Whitby Psychiatric Hospital to take the same position at Queen Street Men- tal Health in Toronto.
