Karl Kurz, owner of the meat processing plant, applied for rezoning of his present site to allow for an expansion on his operation in Myrtle Station, a designated hamlet inthe Durham Region officialplan. The designation permits limited industrial uses in hamlets subject to inclusion of appropriate requirements in the zoning bylaw. The property in question is designated residential, but the bylaw was amended to allow for "extension or enlargement of a non- conforming use." The extension is to be used for ad- ditional washroom facilities, a lun- ch room, storage area and a new ham preparationroom. The existing bylaw, restricting building floor space to 675 square metres, has been increased to 1,000 sq. metres for Kurz's purposes by the administrative committee as recommended by planning depar- tment. The existing floor area of the plant is 806.37 square metres and the ap- proved rezoning will allow Kurz an expansion of up to 1,675 square metres. It was concluded that the expan- sion of up to 1,000 square metres should be more than adequate for the proposed expansion of the meat processingoperation. To the editor: Thank you for publishing the pic- ture of the Brooklin Grand Trunk railroad station, the elevator, and the "Nip and Tuck," in the column 'Yesterday'inyour March 9 issue.
