Chrysier decision- puts fear to rest The recent Chrysler Corp. decision to not seil the Ajax soft trim plant "put our worst fears to rest," says the president of Canadlian Auto Workers union local- 1090, whose mernbers'are plà nt employees. John Gatens says he would like to think that union efforts to oppose the sale had some effect on the decision by.Chrysier not to seil its fivé Canadian plants. Chrysler, however, plans to close four of its American plants. Under a reorganization jast year', Chrysler's components plants, including, Ajax, became the Acustar chain (Former AMO trim plants purchased by Chrysler are among those now called Acustar-). Gatens, -Qn behaif of the 2,000 Ajax plant workers, had prev- iously'written a letter to Chrysler to protest the proposed sale of the Acustar chain. A refusal to work overtime as a protest was held over two weekends, although was it was "not fully cornplied with," said Gatens. > He . adds, that:- although the new business name of the plant is Acustar, "We still refer to ourselves as Chrysler. "We don't like being, called anything other than Crsler,"ý he said. Iua E, Whiây 43-25 1 inis puviiç; Kn-sýw 1
