Whitby managed to hold down, sconing sensation Jason Sands and defeat Kingston in three straight gaines, in the semi-finai to advance to the final match-up. Whitby opened the series against Kingston with a- 5-2 win in Whitby last week and then won the second and third gaines' of the' best-of-flve seies in Kingston over the weekend. "They're seeinig the light at the end of the tunnel now," coach Jin Boyd said of his teain. With visions of a provincial champ- ionship, he added, "They're starting to get excited." Boyd's teai lost to Streetsville, by one goal, in a gaine iast season and the final wili be their flrst encounter this season. Boyd says Streetsville, which defeated Chathamn to reach the final, is a teain much like Whitby, relying on strong teani pay. "1 think the gaines wili be al close," he said, noting that he wil match lines once he determines Streetsviile's strengths and weak- nesses. Against Kingston, the gaine plan was only to control the scoring touch of Sands. "He couid be a one-man demolition crew," said Boyd. "He's a good hockey player." Last Wednesday, Whitby went ahead .5-0 after two periods of the opening gaine. Sands scored both goals in the -third period to make the final score 5-2. "If we can shut hlmi down, we'l beat them," said Boyd after that contest. Steven Biais scored two goals whiie singles went to Brian Lodge, Shawn Saunders and Allan Lacey for Whitby. "We score fairly weli through the lineup," said Boyd. "But we do have one lino that is stronger. "Not too many teains can key on us." Boyd says his teain also has a strong defence, led, by *Jeremy Schott and Ian McNeil. He also alternates goalies Rob Fodor and Josh Wilson. "If they're on, they're very good. When they're hot, they're hard to beat."
