"Specifications change as a car gets older," says Meinecke, who calls the Allen "a thought analyzer." The computer also analyzes North American-made cars. The body shop is èquipped with a down draft paint booth which, according to Puhalski, lends itself to a perfect paint job. Underneath the booth is a pool of water which collects dirt and paint particles. Since the water is always circulating from the booth through a filter then back into the booth, Puhalski says a better quality paint job is the result. Body shop manager Bill Van Den Hoogen says the booth can be heated up to 200 degrees within five minutes,. taking 10 minutes to dry a car after a paint job. In the past, it would have had to sit overnight. A fast rack frame and unit body straightener is also available which lines a car's body up perfectly so it fits the car's original specifications. At the part's counter, manager Norm Stevenson says Nissan parts can usually be delivered within a*day of being ordered. He notes parts for North American-made cars may take longer. i Parts are guaranteed for one year or 20,000 km. With the move, Puhalski is excited about the potential for more business. In 1987 he -sold 700 new and used cars. He is expecting that to increase to 1,000 in his first full year at his new location. Nissan cars are made in Japan (up until 1980, Nissan was known in North America as Datsun). "They changed to coordinate with their European name," says Puhalski, noting that since the name change, Nissan has "come a long way" with a car's technology. "It seems every two, or three years a car is changed because the technology has changed," he says. Nissan will be introducing their first van in Canada in 1989, which Puchalski hasn't even seen yet. "They are also revamping and redesigning the 200SX, the 300SX and the Maima." With the change and growth, Puchalski is hoping his dealership can provide improved service and, like in 1984, win the Nissan award of merit given to the dealership that best achieves customer satisfaction and sales. Wilson feels that a course, such as that offered at Durham College, should be mandatory for any motorcycle driver. "A lot of people don't know what to do in a potentially accident situation." The racer, who bears number 325, says the track is a lot different than the street for riding. "On the street, you're sliding all over the place. But the track, it's got great traction."
