The- club defeated London 4-0 in the finals of the 32-team tour- nament. The key was strong play from the defence of Paul Webb (the final game MVP) Ronald Death, Paul Meehan and the tournaments' most valuable defenceinan, Gavin Prout. Prout was matched against the opposition's top scorers and flot only held t.hem at bay, but 'did somne scoring of his own. To get to the finals Whitby defeated Goulding Park 4-1 and 5-0, Barrie 6-2, Stoney Creek 6-3, and Milton 4-3. The goaltending duo of Brian Bickmore and John Dempster allowed only nine goals in the six games. It was a great finish to the season, capping off by winning their hast 17 games. Evçry forward scored in this stretch inclucling Jamie Paquin, Derek Suddons, Steve Austin, Craig Lanegger, Daniel Holmes, Rob Dancey, Mar- tin Homan and Mark Burns., Coach Craig Terry points out that this team has proven itself as one of the best "AA" novice teamsin the province by winning five tour- naments this season. Assistant coach Brian Holmes and manager Larry Dancey noted that the team improved tremendously over the year as shown by their hate season record. Pascoe rink takes bonspiel Betty Pascoe's, rink captured the ladies Easter Bonnet (closing) bonspiel April 7. With skip Pascoe were vice Muriel Prosser, second Pat Huif and lead Louise Porter. Runner-up was the rink of skip Ev Miller, vice Maria Bennett, second Sharon Copeland and lead Mary Smith. THE MENKYO KEMPO Karate Club of Whitby came away with second place in both color and black belt competition at the YKKF Canadian International karate championship held in Toronto on March 26. Representing the club in this picture are Mike Mc- Naughton (standing left) Cory Hayes (standing, cen- tre) who-had a third-place finish in the women's black belt Kata, Glenn Gaffney (standing, right) with a third in sparring for nine and ten-year-olds, and Adam Hayes (sitting) who had a second place in sparring for nine and ten-year-olds.
