ý1988, PAGE il WHTTBY FIREE, PRESS, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 50-home subdivision approei VA-M Whitby administrative commit- tee members, rejecting a planning recommendation, have approved a subdivision application 'for 50 single family homes off McQuay Blvd., north of Bonacord Ave. Planning staff had recommend- ed that the, application by Caincstle Developments Ltd. be denied since the property had been designated for mediumi density residential development, so that as many as 124 block townhouse dwellings could be put on the property. But some nearby residents, permitted to comment Monday by acting comiittee chairman Ross Batten, said they preferred the lower density development such as proposed by the developer. Residents said the existing Col. Farewell public school was already at capacity and also had concerns. about traffie impact frm future mediumi density developmenit. "I just feel that no matter what we say, nothing is going to help," said Linda Boyd of Jacob Dr., in support of the Caincastle plan for single fanmily homes. However, councillor Joe Drumrn, admitting he would be criticized forî turning down townhouses, said he agreed with the Caincastle plan, if no more than 50 homes were put on the property. Mayor Bob Attersley agreed, noting that the Town previously allowed larger single faniily family homes on Brookdale Ores., and that the proposed devel- opment by Caincastle "would blend in with that." Attersley said the Caincastle plan also blended better with schools and trafic.
