"We spent six rnonths resear- ching the quality of the product we're going to carry," says Egan, who added 10,000 sq. ft. to bis downtown Whitby location - although really not enough space- for the expanded business. "We don't reaily have the room, so we picked the cream of the cream," says Egan of the business now named Brooklin Cycle Marine. What impressed hie and bis staff', and consequently, what hie will seli, are Sun Runner fibregiass cruisers (manufactured in Spokane, Wash.) which he describes as "our big line" and "a good investment" for the buyer; Edson runabouts (manufactured in Manitoba) of up to 16 feet; Lund aluminum boats ( aiso nianufactured in Manitoba), which Egan says is one of only two makes of such a boat type that is Coast Guard-approved for both commercial use and as lifeboats; Procraft bass boats (manufactured in Tennessee); and Mariner boat engines. It was an easy decision to retaIl bass boats as "Tournament fishing is just absoluteiy taking off around here," says Egan. He says Brooklin Cycle 'had been doing manine servicing in recent years, with slips in Whitby harbor for repairs as weli as providing repair service in Oshawa-and Pickering., And when supplies of Honda motorèy4p" and four-wheel ail-terrain vehicles dwindled, '"We decided this was the year to get into it (boats)."
