Just a special note for the upcoming news at Henry High. Watch out for our annual bike-a-thon to help out the United Way and our second Spirit Week is coming up with the debut of our first annual'Slave Drive.' Bryce Cooper They're here! Yes, to the dismay of many, mid-term report cards were isued last Thursday. Perhaps, then, the weekend past was not the greatest. However, next weekend is sure to be a thriller for all at Ander- son. Anderson's "The Music Man" premiere is this weekend, April 28, 29 and 30. The past weeks have been tense for all taking part in the produc- tion. On Friday of last week, students performed at the Oshawa Shopping Cenyter in preparation for opening night on Thursday. Everyone is ex- cited about the musical which is sure to be a big success. All students taking part making up the cast, setting, light and audio crew and pit or- chestra are to be congratulated for their efforts. Special congratulations are to go out to the backbone of the performance, Mr. and Mrs. Foster. In sports both Anderson rugby and soccer have really heatedup. In the week past Anderson played a series of exhibition games against various teams at all three levels. Each of the games played were in preparation for Anderson's season opener which was to take place at Dunbarton H.S. in Pickering. Anderson has shown promising results from all three levels during exhibition play and hopes to continue through the relatively short season which ends in the last weeks of May. Girls' soccer actio has become equally exciting as their season opens. Everyone at Anderson is behind the girls as they hope to improve on last year's results. The first weekend in May will be a very memorable one to all graduating students of Anderson when they celebrate their prom at the Harbor Castle Westin in Toronto. IT æ Ann Dunn Sometimes it can be hard to get everyone's participation, but when it is for a good cause nobody seems to mind. On Friday, April 22, Trafalgar participated in our first ever famine day. This was organized by Mr. Cleary who suggested raising money for the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto. During our lunch break we were informed of the increasing number of homeless people in Toronto. The statistics were amazingly high. Gerrard Kennedy from the Daily Bread Food Bank explained that our lunches that day would be going to feed many people in Toronto. For us it was one day of hunger; for the hungry it will provide a meal among manyhungrydays. The Fulford Debates took place at Lakefield School last Saturday. The resolution was capitalism is digging its own grave. Representing Trafalgar were Nancy Alilovic, Alana Assad, Ranie Bowers, Rushmi Dua, Sonja MacDonald and Tina Zanella. It was a challenging experience for our debators. This past weekend the Independent Schools' Drama Festival was held at Upper Canada College on Friday and Saturday students were ad- dressed by professional actors and actresses about playwrighting movement, voice, make-up, set design, jazz dance and clown acting. The Grade nines performed the play "For Crying Out Loud" during the festival. On Trafalgar's own Drama Night, May 19, the Grade nines will present this play again as well as "ComingThrough the Rye," and the Grade tens will perform "The Governor's Lady." Don't forget about "Our Town" which will be staged on April29and 30at the school. Good luck toallour actors. SUSANN NELSON (top) and Helene Scime work on a mural at the entran- ce foyer to Denis O'Con- nor high school. The Gr. 11 art project, involving 28 students, will see seven murals decorating the walls at various locations in the school. Students form mock council This year's annual mock council, which gives Whitby high school students an inside look at municipal politics, will be held tonight (Wednesday, April 27) at 7:30 p.m.. Student Mayor, Marnie Cockburn from Henry Street High School, recently introduced her council to Whitby's "official" council. Students participating are: Belinda Bain, Henry St.; Shiva Dean, Anderson Collegiate; Greg DeVries, Anderson; Danad Ginter, Henry; Jay Gould, Henry; Dennis Hopkins, Anderson; Lisa Howarth, Henry; Samina Khan, Anderson; Kelly Knowles, Anderson; Thon MacDonald, Anderson; Trevor Rands, Henry, James Stubbs, Henry and Mark Thorndyke, Anderson. Students takes the place of Town councillors and staff and hold a mock council meeting to discuss issues important to the town. Our apology The Henry Street High School and Quest Private School columns appeared under the wrong headings on the high school page in last week's Free Press. The Free press wishes to apologize for the error. Denis O'Connor athletes bring home the medals once again! The DO'C track team placed in the top five in several events in the recent DYSSAA indoor meet. Mario Skara placed first in the hurdles and second in the long jump. Keith Burke took a third in high jump, while Darren Williams came up with a fifth. Third place went to our junior boys relay team. The team, consisting of Alan Carroll, Mario Skara, Darren Williams and Keith Burke, ran a strong 4x200 M race. Coach Smart is extremely pleased with the effort and time these boys have given and is proud of their successes: Way to go guys! Your medals will be a wonderful ad- dition to our new trophy case. It seems that there have been more and more congratulatory wishes and successes here at DO'C. Not only have our athletes been successful, butso too were our politicians. John Goulin, Sean Doyle and Sean Sinclair day participatedinthe annualAjax Mock Council. The threerepresented DO'C superbly with their finely executed speeches and good-natured outlook. Not ônly did these boys show the Ajax community what DO'C is about, they were also able to gain some insight on the intricacies of politics. Last year it was "Black Comedy" this year it's "Blithe Spirit." Fanatics of the supernatural and mysterious beings will get a kick out of this DO'C drama production. Actors and actresses Alana Blackall, Delphina Joseph, Carol French and Jason Brown will prove to us that seances and fortune tellers really do the trick! The talented performers, along with our two devoted drama teachers, Miss Calderone and Mr. Gallagher hope that tonight's opening night, April 27, will be as suc- cessful as years past! Our athletes have been beautifying the school in their own way. With the senior girls' soccer team doing so well, and our track team placing first to fifth in all their events, it seems that DO'C is ablaze in glory. But DO'C itself is alio on fire. Artists have been busy sketching and painting several forms of DO'C spirit all over the school. These talented people must have magic fingers and paintbrushes for it seems that they can put up these marvelous murals faster than I can count them. It's great to see the enthusiasm on the artists' faces and the pleasant smiles that the DO'C body gives to them. These bright portraits will help the time pass, as students look forward to the summer vacation. I know they will help me!
