It took a lot of time, a lot of patiencet" said Chris Stanley, community information services librarian at the Whitby Public Library.' He says he was "amazed at the sheer volume of -services that do exist" for Whitby residents. About 500 organizations are listed in the directery, which includes those that arè region-wide but available te Whitby residents, and the descriptions that accompany each listing are "more complete" than ever before. Stanley would not disclose the cost of the directory, but said "substantial financial. commit- ment" was made by the library. Two hundred directories were published, and it is available te anyone at a cost of $12. Letters have been sent te many organ- izations who may want the directory and response has so far been positive. More books will be printed should there be a. demand. There are plans te annually publish the directery. Kiwanis 'Bîke Ride for Cancer' on Saturday This year's "Bike. Ride for Cancer" organized by Whitby Kiwanis will be on Saturday, April 30, starting at 10 a.m. at Centennial Park. The tep maie and female who raise the most funds will each receive a new bicycle and there will be other prizes on the day of the ride. Free bot dogs and pop will be provided for everyone after the ride, courtesy of Miracle Food Mart and the Town Plaza. The route will be patrolled by St. John Ambulance, Durham Regional Police and Kiwanis.'. Sponsor sheets are available at the TD Bank at the Town Plaza, the Beaver Gas Station in Whitby and Loveil Drugs in Whitby. Funds raised are for cancer research. Cali 668-6622 for more information.
