In 1906, Greenwood was called to the Englisb bar and was made a justice' of tbe peace for Méiddlesex. In 1911, be married Margery Spencer, a minister's daugliter, at Westminster. She was 17 years bis junior. Their best man was Sir Wilfrid Laurier, and -the wedding party featured many Britisb politicians and peers. Their union, produced two - sons and two daugbters. Furtber bonors were bestowed upon this Wbitby boy as lie was appointed to the bars of New Brunswick and Australia sbortly before the first world war. Greenwood distinguisbed bimself in military efforts during the first world war as the creator and lieutenant colonel of the lOtb service Battalion of South Wales, and led tbem in France. Upon return, lie was made honorary colonel of the Winnipeg Grenadiers and a baronet. He acted as Cbief Secretary for Ireland in Lloyd George~s government in 1919, but was not terribly successful in the position as there was unrest tbere that tbe George governnient attempted to resolve with force and violence. He left Cabinet in 1922, and lost bis seat. He returned in 1924 as an MP for East Waithamstow and was made Baron Greenwood of Lianbister, County of Rachior, in 1929 on his retirement from the Comnions. H -is wife Margo, a gifted artist and influential person in ber own right, was bonored with ýa Companion of the British Empire in 1929. With Greenwood's baronectcy, lie took a seat in the House of Lords, as a Conservative and was appointed Treasurer of the Conservative Party in 1933. Viscountcy was given to Greenwood in 1937, when be was styled Viscount Greenwood of tbe county of London. He resigned bis treasury post in 1938 and took the position of presidenit of British L'on and Steel. He spent bis last years travelling witb bis wife, and it was during this time that lie presented a stained glass window to Ail Saints' Anglican Churcli in Whitby on a. return visit to Canada. Cuffley not only remembered that service, she became a part of it five years ago when she began as hostess.
