Melien had a strong performance at the championship with her second place finishes in both the 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle events. Hier next -meet is the'Olymnpic trials, the qualifying meet for Canadian Olymhpic swim team members, ta be held in Montreal at the end of the month. With only tbree weeks remaining before the meet, Melien is continuing her. rigorous training in the hopes oîf obtaining a spot on the Olympic squad. . Leswick qualifie-s for tri*[alsý Wendy P'rimeau of the Whitby Iroquois Swim Club had two first-place finishes while team- mate Julie Leswick qualified for the upcoming Olympic trials during competition in a recent meet. At the Mutual Life invitational April 29 to May 1 at Wilfrid Laurier University, Primeau won the girls' open 800 freestyle anid, in the girls' 15 *and over division, the 200 freestyle. She was also second in both the 400 individual medley and 50 freestyle. Leswick, in the samne age category, was first in the 50 freestyle, second in the 100 backstroke and, in the 200 backstroke, qualified for the Olympic trials in Montreal May 28 toJune 2. A total of 315- swimmers, representing 15 teams from Ontario and Bermuda, took part in the Region of Waterloo Swim Club meet.1 Jili Morrice of the Whitby club won the 200 fiy, was third in three other évents, and added a fourth, a sixth and a ninth-place finish, in the girls' 13 and 14 division. The girls' il and 12 relay teamn from. the Whitby club was first in the freestyle relay. The girls' 10 and under* relay team had a second-place finish. Leslie Dowson was first in the 100 fiy and 200 individual medley, second in two other events and third in two others. Also in girls' 10 and under, .Molly Morrice had a third-!place finish and four fourth-place finishes. Rick Budel was fourth in the 100 fly for boys 15 and over. Jason Ayotte was second in 100 breaststroke for boys 13 and 14 and third in 200 breaststroke. In the same division, Scott, Currie was fourth in 100 backstroke and fifth in 200 backstroke.
