Walkers will follow a 10-km route te raise money in aid *of environmental concerns. This event is being undertaken by inember agencies of the Ontario Envirornment Network, and la part of' a series of 'Move-A-Thons' that will be taking place' in communities across the poince, to bring public awareness te environmental concerns. "The -walk will be a fun way for citizens te learn about Durhamn Regiorwhile seeing some of the environmental bot spots in the area," says David Martin, executive director of the Nuclear Awareness Projeet. "We intend to show the public some Of the . ostive accomlishments as Wel, and have chosen a route that will take participants through some areas littie' known to- the general public.', "South of Bayly Street in the Ajax-Pickering area there are public walkways and greenpaths that connect one subdivison te another and in fact provide safe passage. for our youngsters on their way to and from school" he said. The walk also includes a tour along the waterfront between the two municipalities, giving the public an opporturiity to view the improvements and restoration work that has been undertaken on the lakefront in the past few years. Pledge forms are being distributed throughout the community and may be obtained from any community recreational centre in the region.
