PAGE 8, WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1,1988 Shitby business LASCO earn'saward LASCO Steel bas received an award from the Quality Man- agement Institute, a division of the Canadian Safety Association (CSA), for meeting the supply standards of Canadian and U.S. nuclear plants. Reg Hurst, who monitors quality assurance and training, explained that the award is for the achievement of nuclear power status. LASCO's quality manual, a list of safety and quality specifications for production, met the standards of Canadian and American nuclear plants as a supplier of parts. The manual, or quality spec- ifications, passed an audit by the Quality Management Institute. The audit is performed once a year, according to Hurst, to determine if the company is working according to its own standards and to certify the company to supply industry using steel products, such as nuclear plants or the automotive indus- try. Larry Rogers, president of QMI, presented the award to LASCO president Lew Hutchinson last Tuesdav. More retail uses approved Whitby council has given approval for construction of a 3,900 sq. ft. building to house retail and personal use on the west side of Thickson Rd. S., north of Nichol Ave. The retail use will add to the retail use now located in the area. The new building will, house a submarine shop, cleaners, a photo store and a yogurt shop. Open for about three weeks now, Colour Plus offers decorating advice, wallpaper, paint and flooring from its location at 513 Brock St. N. Pittsburgh Paints are featured, owner Ray Mounce says, because "they are the largest in the world and produce quality paint." Wallpaper, in stock and from a large book selection, is also available as well as a variety-of tiles. The' DesignaColor System 2 computer, exclusively at Colour Plus, coordinates a color the customer may like with others to create a color scheme for a room, or helps to coordinate two or more colours. For example, the computer can recommend a certain color of paint to enhance and blend cur- tains or rugs of different colors. Punch in one color and the computer will give you compli- mentary, contrasting and design- er colors from whch to choose a color scheme. Mounce says that popular decorating colors this year are taupes, roses, corals, peaches and greys., "I enjoy doing -decorating, and decided I wanted to do this four years ago when I was decorating my house,". Mounce says. When he could not find the help he needed to coordinate his decor- ating, he contacted Pittsburgh Paints and through them discovered the computer system. "Our motto is quality paint with quality service," Mounce says.
