For example, one member said, "If businesses are open* on Sunday, everything should be open: government offices, banks etc."t Another said, "It is not easy to get people to work on Sunday. Fatalities increase dring summer& Seventy-two per cent of Wlhitby businesses are opposed to Sunday shopping, according to a Whitby Chamber of Commerce survey conducted from May 15 te 17. Only 24 Per cent of ail the businesses surveyed were in favor of Sunday shopping with four per cent undecided. Retail businesses appear to be the most opposed te, Sunday shopping, according te the survey. Eighty-five per cent of retail businesses surveyed were against Sunday shopping. Fifteen of the professional businesses were opposed, five in favor. . The manufacturing sector was opposed to Sunday shopping in the Chamber survey with four businesses against and three for. "Other institutional" res- pondents were,' in the majority, opposed, with 14 businesses against Sunday shopping and only seven in favor. Fie recommends parents set a good example for youngsters ..by making certain they, obey water and boating regulations. "One of the most important examples parents can set is to provide a personal floatation device for every person, including children, who go boairng," said Smith. "And, of course, no one should be drinking and boating. It's dangerous, illegal and deadly." Already' this year, 12 people have died in boating, related deaths on waterways patrolled by the OPP. "Safety on roadways or waterways requires a proa commitment from each of us," said Wicklund.
