Appll*ication for two new homes meets objectiions WIfTBy FREE pRESS, WEDNESDAY, JULY 6,1988, PAGE 17 BRy Debbie Luchuk Some Ashburn area residents voiced objections at a public meeting Monday night to an application to create two building lots on a vacant property off Ashburn Road. Dr. Mary Ankus of Ashburn wants, to, di1vide part of lot 27 (concession .9) to allow, two residences with less frontage than' is required in the existing zoning. She nmentioned she wants to build another home for ber son to live in. It" would have less frontage 28.8 feet rather than the standard 35 feet required. However,' neigbbors, at the meeting expressed concern about the impact of- the homes on quality and quantity of water and market value of their own homes. Brian Irvine, a resident living to the south of the property in the application, said* that he did not want two bouses "packed close together." Irvine was also concerned about a shortage of water or flooding if the homes are built on the property. It will affect my property, it d"Anld be flooded every time it rains," ihe-said. frvine 'said that the. Ankus property is one foot higber than his at its lowest point. He was also concerned about the property value of bis home if two homes were built on one property when the rest of the properties have only one home on tbem. Other residents ecboed Irvine's statements. Ankus responded tbat sbe is not a developer, and that she was constructing for personal use. She defended the qua]ity of the proposed homes, saying, ' k at my current bouse. You will see the quality that rm used to. It is a beautiful, quiet residential community. 1 certainly do not want to detract from property values. I want to to- improve the look of the community," she said. Ankus ýsaid that she b as already done some landscaping to make the lot more atfractive. Her son is an engineer, she said, rnaking a respectable wage, but nowhere. near enough te buy a home. 1'He earns $32,000 a year. What are the chances, of a young person like that ever owning their own home?" she said. Ankus added that it was a waste of land to build only one home on the site. .Planning staff will now await more comments on the proposal before making a recommendation.
