The wat disposal site would be in the Heart Fund i form of aberm and woud bein a 38-acre area at the south end of LASCO's 358-acre property. Ha-sLy a recent report te council that "at titis stage" major concerns include: - the use of valuable industrial land for waste disposai; - potential future expansions of the. waste 'disposai site which would ster.ilize additional industrial lands; -- impacts on adjacents residential and industrial land uses; -ennvironmental impacts including but not limited te leachate contamination Of ground and surface water; - responsibility for leachate mionitoring and shoreline erosion in close proximity te the proposed berm; -overal envirornmentai safety. At last week's regional council meeting, Whitby regional councillor Tomn Edwards said he was "grateful" for the staff report whicb, "echoes the concerns of a lot of people in Whitby." Edwards referred te the berm as a "dump site," and said if that term "sounds derogatery, tbat's tbe way 1 intend it te be."
