I didn't hear anyone say "Don't do this, there is no water and sewers in Brooklin," said Attersley. "Renascent won't use a wbisk- er of the water that the Brooklin Comniunity Centre uses," said Attersley. Batten said the water and sewer problem had been emph- asized in the application right from the beginning. 'What we're seeing right now is a cop-out from staff of the Region," said Batten, referring to Region approval of tbe water systems proposed and the septic systeni. Attersley said Batten's comments were "not fitting" while Edwards said Batten's remark was "unfair." Attersley, Bugelli, Brunelle -and Edwards opposed the committee recomTendation, while councillors Batten, Gerry Emm and Joe Drumm, all mernbers of committee, approved. One of Drumm's concerns was the number'of guests (28) and staff te be in the bouse. A vote was then taken on approving Renascent, with only Emm c aning his vote to support the applicant. After the meeting Emm told The Free Press he changed his vote after he lost the fight on basis of sewer and water. "I'm not opposed to this (treatment centre). I fought on the water, and what can You do then," he said. Renascent will house 28 guests and seven staff and* bas received approval from the Durham Region health department for a septie tank system. SBefore council debated the matter, Bruce Ketcheson, solicitor for Renascent, told council that if Renascent did nlot receive approval, it would take the appropriate stops" te appeal the decision, apparenitly referring to, the Ontario Municipal Board.
