Redmen, and goaltender Wayne Colley, posted yet another shutout with a 27-O laughter over Mississauga on Wednesday last week. The gaine was called with 13 minutes left in the final period to end the one- sided contest. Derek Keenan scored four goals and had -six assists for Brooklin with John Dark scoring five goals and Gil Nieuwendyk adding three as nearly every Redmen player shared in the scoring. Ted Sawicki was in net and picked up five assists as Redmen crushed Brampton 21-1 on Thursday last week. The gaine was marked by a bench-clearing brawl which erupted after an apparent high-sticking incident. Several gaine misconducts. were handed out. Doug Deschner scored four goals and had three assists, Kevin Vansiekel had four goals and two assists and Keenan was credited with two goals and five assists. The top six Legion teamns in the province meet in. Windsor Aug. 5, 6 and 7. Wiitby downed Cobourg 9-2 at Peel Park to take the championship. Whitby>s ace pitcher Tim Puddister allowed only tour hitswhile Jamie Difiore led the offence with a triple, two runs and two runs-batted-in. Whitby went undefeated in a tournament over the weekend in Niagara Falls but bad weather suspended play. Puddister threw a one-hitter and Ian Andrew had two bits, including a triple, as Whiàtby defeated Oakville in the flrst gamne. Andrew took a turn on the mound as Whiàtby crushed Thorold 11-2. Andrew helped himself with two bits, two runs and two runs-batted-in while Keith Milîs had two bits and stole home for a run. The semi-final and final of the tournament will be rescheduled to August. The Whitby team, sponsored by the Legion, plays Belleville this week before starting the EOBA playoffs on the Aug. 1 weekend. Squirts take Markhatn tournament Whitby's squirt rep soccer teain surrendered a total of only three goals te win five games and the championship in the Markham bouse league invitational tournament over the weekend. Ail three goals against Whitby were scored in the final as they defeated Malton 5-3 in a thrilling, overtimne contest. It was a barnburner,"' said Wihitby coach Mike Whelan of the final. Far- and Suddens scored in another 2-O over Bowmanville's second team that propehled Whitby inte playoff action on Sunday. On Sunday, Whitby got goals from Epaminondas, Suddens, Farr and Jason Chiplick te defeat Bowmanville 4-O and head for the final encounter with Malten. Other members of the Whitby team are John Gillinghain, Ryan Babcock, Paul Caley, 'Brett McCrury, Joel witten, Matthew Whelan, Marcus Payne, Kristian Weislock and Duane Plakmeyer. Assisting coach Whelan are Brent Fan- and Richard Gillingham. Ha y sets record iM* road race Darrylý Hay of Oshawa set a course record as he won the Whitby Tigers -5-kcm road race on Wednesday last week. This year's event, sponsored by Petro Canada, was described as an outstanding success by race director Ian Barron, with 238 runners taking part. Hay covered the distance in 15 minutes, 19. seconds.* Brenda Thompson led female runners with another course record of 18 minutes, 48 seconds., Local runner Susan Bruce posted a personal best with ber time of 20 minutes, 18 seconds. Youngest runner was- Adamn Emsley, 5, while most senior was 56-year -old Jim Mcflwham. Barron says the event will change next year to a 5-km class road race in the OTFA timex series. A 3-km fun run wil al'so be held. Gold'for tykes h tournamrent Whitby Warriors tyke lacrosse team won the championship of a tournarnent in Mississauga July 21-24. Whitby downed the home teain 10-1 and then Peihain 5-1 before falling to Arthur 4-1. Warriors doubled Scarborough 6-3 in the final to win the gold. E. Cardwell scored six goals for Whitby in the tournament. A.J. Shannon and M. McIvor scored four each, S. Phillips had tre and E. Kfitamura and M. Akey two each. A. McLean bad a single. Whitby goalie Ian Cuthbertson received the most sportsnmnlike player award.
