The value of. residential permiits issued as of July 31 was $79K18.128 - $19 million more than the- total of $60.6 million for this time last yeéar. The number of residential permits has increased to 1,045,ý compared to 720 for the samne time last year. The total value of permits issued for commercial and industrial construction is also up fromn last July. Residential permits are mainly for single family units, somelink dwellings and a few townhouses, Atterslgy said. Obituaries EDNA HARRIS Edna Martha Harris of Toronto, formerly of Whitby, died at Toronto General Hospital on July 25, 1988. She was 79. She was born on December 27, 1908, at Stirling, Ont., daughter of John Haggerty and Ellen Leonard. she married Vernon! Wilbur Harris on June 22, 1946. A Whitby resident foir 41 years, Mrs. Harris was a registered nurse, a nursing instructor and associate director of nursing education. She was a member of Al Saints Anglican Church in Whitby, the Anglican Church of Orono and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. She is survived by ber husband, daughters Janes Jones of Casper, Wyoming, Joy Bran- deau of Manhattan Beach in California and son Jim of Toronto. Also survived by brother William of Brooklin. Mrs. Harris was predeceased by sisters Clara Rich, Helen Thorndyke and Florence Gud- geon. The funeral was held from the Town Funeral Home in Whitby on July 28, 1988, Rev. J. Able conducting. Interment at Union cemetery, Oshawa. With most of the permits issued for single farmily dwellings, Attersley was asked whether affordable housing was being encouraged in various developments.
