Whitby's first team sandwiched victories over Hamil- ton 9-6 and 5-2 around a 5 -4 loss to Kitchener to gain a berth in the B final against Burlington. But Burlington prevailed in the final 9-1 over the Whitby team, ranked third in Ontario. "They were just worn out," said coach Don Lawson of his squad. Chuck Coles, goaltender for the Whitby team, continued his outstanding play throughout the provincials. John Paul Copeland and Andrew Shannon led the r reaeh provincial. finals scoring for Whitby. A second- Whitby tyke team, made Up only in July from the house league, made it to the provincial D final before falling to Elora 6-5. The second team lost to Spartan, then beat Elora 8-2 and Bowmanville 5-2. Spartan again prevailed in the fourth game, sending Whitby to the D final. Keith Powell, Doug Shearer, Tom Spaxman, Jody Turner and John Turner all had doubles for Whitby. In the third game played last Thursday, Whitby entered the ninth inning trailing 4-2 but came up with five runs to again steal victory from Oshawa and dlaim the series. After Whitby scored one run to make the score 4-3, Spaxman, wth two out, clubbed a triple in the ninth with the bases loaded to knock in the tying and two go-ahead runs off Oshawa pitcher Gary Carroll. Heffer then hit a single off Oshawa reliever Rob Sharp to send Spaxman home for the 7-4 edge. John Turner got the win on the mound for Whitby and helped himself with a home run and two singles. John Parrot had two singles for Whitby while Spax- man added a single. Doug Shearer and Keith Powell also had singles for Whitby. Peterborough advanced to the final series with a 5-4 win over Port Hope in the fifth and deciding game of their semi-final series. Peterborough was first in the regular season standings. It'll be a tough series," predicted Moore. The flrst game in the best-of- five EOBA final will be played Friday night in Peterborough and the second in Whitby, at Iroquois Park, on Sunday,starting at 7 p.m. The third game will be Monday night in Peterborough.
