Larry McLean, an Oshawa alderman, and Ross Stevenson, a former MPP for the riding of Durham-York, have announced they will seek the nomination. The nomination meeting wil be held Sept. 12 at the General Sikorski Hall, 1551 Stevenson Rd. N.'inOshawa. Stevenson, who was an MPP from 1981 te 1987, decided three weeks ago he would mun. I have always been involved in community work. I enjoy dealing with local groups," said Stevenson, 45, who lives north of Uxbridge near Udora. Stevenson, who was defeated by Liberal Bill Ballinger in last year's provincial election, refused te talk -about issues, saying only hie is now running for the job as the Conservative candidate. However,- he said trade, especially free trade, will be one of the major issues in the next federal election. "When the nomination is over I will freely discuss issues," said Stevenson, who owns and operates a family farm which includes 350 acres. He is aise a consultant for a Toronte-based public affairs firm. McLean last year ran for the Conservative nomination in Dur- hami Centre for the provin~cial election but was defeated by Oshawa lawyer Stephanie Ball.
