The Whitby Heritage Advisory Group is comprised of business and community citizens interes- ted in the preservation of Whitby's history, according ta the group's president Lynda Buffett. "There has been tremendous growth in the town of Whitby and along with that concern amongst many that Whitby may lose its identity in the process of uncontrolled development - this in a community that bas such an exciting past," said Buffett at a press conference to introduce the group Iast Thursday at the former Whitby library building at the corner of Dundas St. W. and Byron St. Buffett said the group bas had discussions with the Whitby i-storical Society about a permanent location of a town museum. The society now bas a temporary museum located in the Kendalwood plaza. "In the near future, we need ta establish a permanent museumn, said Buffett. She said the group also wants ta promote public awareness of the town's heritage and encourage preservation policies for the future. The . group will hold fundraising events for a permanent museum location beginning with Heritage Week, from Sept. 10 ta Sept. 17. Sweatshirts have been de- signed incorporating the group's slogan - 'Whitby's Heritage Is Our Future' - and an artistic collage by local artist Leanne Long showing seven bistoric buildings in Whitby. A limited edition print will also be for sale at Picture This and That. TIhe print also features the collage of historic buildings.
