Region delays approval of 401 widening Durham Region has delayed, for two months, approval of the Hwy 401 widening to 10 lanes, from Brock Rd. in Pickering to Hwy. 115. Members of the Region's planning committee said they wanted to give planners in Whitby, Oshawa and Newcastle a chance to discuss the plans. But many councillors at the Tuesday morning meeting were convinced that 10 lanes, five going east and west, would not be enough. I have seen the Province's presentation three times but stili no one supports the lO-lane solution," said Oshawa alderman John Aker. He said that with the eventual widening of Hwy 115 to four lanes from two in four years, at least 12 lanes plus a collector system will be needed. The Province's proposai is for five lanes heading east and west, with no collector lanes. "By the time this expansion is built it will be outdated," said Oshawa alderman Linda Dionne. The Province has set a 20-year timetable for the expansion. The Region is to comment on the expansion after area planners have had a chance to review the plans. 2.O9/Ib- ITALIAN SAUSAG E Li R«wmm@ý lb./lm2 9
