So when Paul St. John was offered a sowibthe Coquitiain Adanacs, he jumped a the chance. "There aren't many opportun- ities like that in lacrosse," says St. John, wbo played with the Brooklin Redmen when they won the Mann Cup last year. In comparing eastern andl western lacrosse, St. John says the west bas a more competitive league and the teains are geograpbically dloser, making for less travel time. "But any of the eastern teains could compete in a western league," says St. John. addinig that Coquitlam bas a similar style of play as Rednien. "We play a run and gun style or, as we like to cali it, stud bull," says St. John, who notes that Brooklin bas inuch bigger players than Coquitiain. "They might have a bigger team but we won't back down," says St. John, who had 38 points in 24 league games with Ooquitlam, which, he adinits, was not a great year. It bas taken me a while to get adjusted but I started playing better in the playoffs." St. John is looking forward to playing against bis, old teain- mates and is looking for a 'very exciting Mann Cup. But he admits it may'not be as exciting as the western final between Coquitiain and New Westminster. Coquitlam was forced te travel te New Westminster for the seventh and deciding game after holding a 3-1 lead in the series*. "There must have been 4,000 people in the arena and at least two-thirds of them were Coquit- lam fans," recalls St. John. He says the game was tied 5-5 after the second period with Coquitiain scoring the sixtb goal. "New West ran out of steam, in the third period," says St. John. Coquitlam eventually won the game 9-6 and advanced te the Mann Cup for the flrst time in their 24-year bistory. PAUL ST.
