Les Keefer, 40 Of 8800 BRy Debbie Luchuk According to Tony Varone of Village Square Brooklin Inc., the company's proposai to extend regional services (sanitary sewers and watermains) to the Village Square development will be beneficial to Brooklin residents. The developer says hie will foot the bill for sewer and watermain extensions from Whitby to the proposed Village Square develop- ment in Brooklin. Varone made his comments to The Free Press in response to statements by councillor Gerry Emm, who recently said the proposaI would be of no benefit to the established residences. The developer would pay the up front costs of extending services, and the Region would then pay 65 per cent of the completion of the extension within 10 years. I think councillor Emm's comments were unfounded. The sewer is only possible by pivate development," Varone said, adding that the sewage situation in 'Brooklin is a serious situation that many residefits of the -village would like to see resolved. Baldwin -St., who was the pilot, told police the plane lost power and an attempt to restart the engine was unsuccessful. 1 Keefer then attemrpted to land the plane in a fielId but upon area of concern. "How can he (Emm) honestly justify the sewer coming up to the edge of the property not being a benefit? I don't know. "We were told there, was a, sewer problem, and we're more than willing to upfront the cost." However, Varone said that the matter is still under negotiation with the Town and Region. "The hookups' cost would be negligible (to the rest of the town). "The merchants' association impact, it flipped over. Kteefer anid his passenger, Barry Hodgson, 50, of 8780 Baldwin St., were unhurt. Damage *.to the plane is estimated at'e10,O0. there (Brooklin) was cornpletely delighted with our development, and the development is compatible to what is there already (in Brooklin)." Varone said he has had 'tremendous support" from Mayor Bob Attersley and regional chairman Gary Herrema for the project. "Ours is not a closed door," said .Varone. "Our, initial offer 'is .subjetct to changes and negotiations." Myrtie'new*s By Sonja Graham Sunday school has been quite busy these past few weeks with our 30 children attending.
