On Wednesday, Oct. 15, they began the regular season with a 5-4 victory over Pickering at Iroquois Park. After falling behind by two goals, Jim Lawlor scored Whitby's first goal, late in the first period, assisted by Matt Muir and Darryl Hurst. Early in the second, Hurst tied the game with assists from Lawlor and Darryl Wright. Pickering took the lead again shortly- after but superb goaltending by Jeff Claxton kept Whitby in the game. Whitby came back with two goals by Wright and an unassisted tally by Darren Paquin to complete a well-played gaine by both teams. Saturday afternoon in Mark- ham saw another slow start for the Whitby tean-, dropping .behind by three before Jim Brown ~put Wh-itby on the board with a goal assisted by Muir in the mhiddle of the second period. Goaltender Chris Mace and defencemen Brad Lee, Brian Bryska, Mike Lafranie, Dale Edwards and Chris Arges shook off the first period jitters and formed a wall that was not to be penetrated again.
