No acclamations after last.minute registraions There will be contests for every seat in the November municipal election after several new candidates registered before the Oct. 17 deadline. Edie Gomille becarne the newest candidate for regional councillor. She'll battle regional councillor incumbent Tom Ed- wards and councillors Marcel Brunelle and Joe Drumm for the three regional seats for Whitby. Dave Wall also made it a contest in the west ward where incumbent Joe Bugelli seeks re-election. And Pat Dooley became the fifth candidate for the east ward seat, also wanted by Dennis Fox, Bob White, Geoif Rison and Cathy Rowell. Don Kennedy bas dropped out as a candidate in centre ward, but the seat will remain the goal of the six remaining candidates. Regional counciflor Gerry Emm bas challenged Mayor Bob Attersley. There will be five residents seeking the four hydro commission seats. Seven candidates, including the three incumbents, 'have appeared for the three public school trustee seats for WVhitby. Incumbents are Patty Bowman, John Buchanan and Ian Brown while new candidates are Carol Kaye, Lloyd Wallen, Mark Flewwelling and Joe Butson. The incumbents, Catherine Tunney, Ed Finan and Tonm Oldnian, are also seeking re-election for Whitby's three separate school seats. A new candidate will be Deborah Tsagris. 4th region candidate There will be no acclamations for Whitby's three regional seats as Edie Claire Gomille became the fourth candidate before nominations closed on Moriday. She hopes te make regional council more open to the public and to give it more integrity if elected te regional council. Qomille, an English teacher workcing on hali'-time, has lived in Whitby since 1973. I consider myself an environmentalist , said Gomille, involved with the Durhamn Field Naturalists and with recycling 'long before it became fashion- Two issues that Gomille would like te address through regional government are the environ- ment/garbage issue and a policy of public openness.
