Xtra cab is one of highlights of 1989 Toyota lineup A new Xtracab with optional forward-facing 'Xtraseats," an optional 150-horsepower, 3-litre V6 engine on selected 4X2 as well as 4X4 pickups, plus a completely restyled body, highlight the intro- duction of the 1989 lime of Toyota trucks. "Toyota pickup trucks have been known for their hard-work- ing, long lasting characteristics since they first arrived in Canada 14 years ago," comments Toyota Canada Inc. senior vice president Hector Dupuis. "However, for 1989, a new gen- eration of 2-wheel drive (4X2) and 4-wheel drive (4X4) Toyota pick- ups have added convenience and car-like comforts to their tough- ness, giving them a. special kind of dual purpose usefulness." The new look starts with an integrated valance panel and front bumper leading to tautlined fenders, wider access, one-piece stamped steel doors and one-piece seaniless cargo bed with welded- in, double-walled construction. Ail 1989 Toyota trucks a-Iso feature wider cabs and cargo beds while the Xtracab model with its longer cabin now features for- ward-facing rear jumpseats (known as 'Xtraseats"), as stan- dard on 4X2 SR5 V6 and ail 4X4 Xtracab models, or optional on re- maining Xtracab models. .More window glass means a brighter interior and improved visiblity while Xtracab models are bright and airy with the added benefit of a tilt opening rear quarter window. There is reduced wind noise, resulting from the new aerody- naniic body style and additional silencing materials in the floor as well as a more rigid cab design, reinforced door frames and im- proved weatherstripping to make the ride quieter. Toyota trucks retain features such as standard front and rear mudguards, resin type stone chip- ping protective coatings on rocker panels and in front of rear wheels. There are three 4X2 power unit options: a 2.4-litre, carbur- ated 4-cylinder engine which produces 103 horsepower at 4,800 rpmn; a 2.4-litre, fuel injected, 4- cylinder engine which produces 116 horsepower at 4,800 rpm; and a 3-litre, fuel-injected V6 en- gine which produces 150 horse- power at 4,800 rpm. There are two 4X4 power unit options: a 2.4-litre, fuel-injected, 4-cylinder engine which produces 116 horsepower; and a 3-litre, fuel-injected V6 engine which produces 150 horsepower. Ail '89 SR5 V6 4X4 Toyota trucks are fitted with an auto- matically disconnecting differen- tial (A.D.D.) which eliminates the current mechanical front locking hubs. This systemn disconnects the front differential automatically when 2-wheel drive is in use, sav- ing fuel and power while reducing noise and fuel corisumption. i I E THAN THE COMPETIT ION, NOW THAT'S PERFORAA 7ftnkitszTools available at: laiiarý 543 Bayiy.Street, Pickeng8926TOL HC t LJ mon. -Fri. 8 - 6 pm, Saturday 9 - 5 pm L1~sZ Two new Ontarlo maps Ontario Minister of Trans- portation Ed Fulton has announc- ed that two new maps in the Ontario transportation map ser- ies are now available.
