GO, Town bus intersection studied Whitby council has approved a $39,000 study to determine how Whitby Transit will interact with GO Transit once the GO Station opens Dec. 5. Tranplan Associates Of Oakville, a firmn that has worked with the Toronto Transit Commission, was chosen for the study. It is expected to take seven months to complete and will look at how the Town will handie the increased ridership and what changes will have to be made to the present bus system. But, for now, couneil has adopted recommendations from the public works department on interim changes to the bus systemi. The Town will lease four school buses to use for special trips to the GO train. The morning buses will arrive at the station in ti me for commuters to catch trains leaving at 6:47 a.m., 7:06 a.m., 7:25 a.m. and 7:43 a.m. The buses will, meet trains arriving at the, itation at 5:08 p.m., 5:28 p.rn., 5:48 p.mr.; 6:08« p.m. aiid 6:28 p.m. ~ As an added incentive; ridèrs who use Whitby. Transit will receive frVee*rides to the GO station. GO will then reimburse the Town foï 75 per cent of the cost of the ride. The number of riders on Wyhitby transit will be counted manually by thè bus duiver. On Monday night council approve .d pe purchase of two used bus cÃ"aches from Brantford at' a cost of $3i,600. Those buses, expected. to- be delivered in December, will replace two of the school buses. Two- new buses are al so expected to be delivered in March, 1989. They will replace the remaining txvo school buses. The routes are being operated on a trial basis.
