The Whitby Lions recently donated a mechanically controlled dog to the departmnent. The dog, named Sparky, cost able to talk and ride a bike backward with the help of know-how. "There is a certain age group $10,600 and is forward and some human that responds to this sort of instruction," said deputy fire chief Tony VanDleweerd about Sparky. Jim MacPherson, president of the Whitby Lions; said the department approached the Lions about the possibility of a donation. "They (the department) knew what they wanted," said MacPherson, who added the department will be putting the dog to good use. VanDoleweerd added that Sparky will also be involved with the department's junior fire department program.
