At a planning committee meet- ing last week, councillor Ross Batten said the application by George Bilissis does nothing to enhance the streetscape. "AIl you're doing is dumping apartments on top of a donut store," said Batten. Similar com- ments were made by committee chairman Joe Drumm. "That doesn't fit on Brock St. We are trying to put something down there that looks nice," said Dnypl proposai tixat cornes before council that looks like this, L won't support," echoed centre ward councillor Lynda Buffett. Bilissis agreed ta a request by committee that he meet with planning staff and redesign the plan. "Vie would like to do some- thing that looks nice,» said Bilis- sis, who was accompanied by bis architect, S.M. Youn. The plan 'had received appro- val fromn the planning depart- ment. However, approval was subject to a development agree- ment requiring the developer to close the existin access from Brock St. should nthe property to the north ( existing Petro Canada service station) be rede- veloped in the future. 9The requiremnent was part of a «comprehensive block concept" recommended by planning department flor the applicant's property and properties to the north'(etro Canada) and south (Yum-Yum's Restaurant). The developer would enter into a right-of-way agreemnent for a future six-metre-Wxde, north- 1 south vehicular aisle fronting the property to ease traffic circula- tion through the property. "It is noted that trhie closure of the (Brock St.) driveway would not occur until redevelopment of the Petro Canada service station lands occuqr," states planning - department about a condition ot the development agreement. Planning department noted that the same approach has been used on the south side of Dundas St. E., between the Dairy Queen and the submarine/donut shop at the corner of Hopkins and Dun- das. Gardeners must.vacate property Due to future development, 37 part-time Whitby gardeners will have to vacate the garden plots they rent from the Town of Whitby in 1989. The plots are located on the north side of Rossland Rd. oppo- site the municipal building on provincially-owned land. The Province has informed the Town that the land will be required for construction pur- poes inlt 1989. e or$3 poeschpltn wsene98or$3 in 1988. The Town will also have to remove a water Uine and taps located besi de the garden plots. Trhe Province bas allocated that block of land as the new location of the- registry office.
