FrocProue photo Banon corrugated cardboard Feb. i Old corrugated cardboard will not be accepted at the Brock West landfill site after Feb. 1, 1989. .Regional council last week approved the ban on cardboard which accounts for 10 to 15 per cent of the 280,000 tonnes of residential and industrial! com- mercial solid waste produced in Durham every year. A pilot project will be impie- mented in Ajax to determine how much corrugated cardboard resi- dences will place in their recy- dling boxes. The ban will force industries and businesses to separate card- board fromn their garbage before it is taken to a landfill site. It will cost Durham $177,500 to implement the program, in- cluding $20,000 to launch a pro- motional campaign. The ban cornes into effect on the same date as a similar ban imposed by Metro council. Theban carrnes a maximum fine of $2,000.
