Raises are reviewed every year. Councillor's salaries increased to $13,000 from $10,050 while Attersley's salary went to *35,000 fromn $29,080. The raise 18 retroactive to Dec. 1, 1988. Attersley said the increase is a personnel matter and, as such, was deait with in camera. The only indication of the in- crease was a bylaw approved by A dl , e s - o, council on Monday -night lait week. Town clerk Don McKaày said there 18 no reguirment in the Municipal Act for council to, hold a public meeting on the increase. «It 18 up to, council'members,» said Mckay, who noted a copy of the bylaw, indicating the in- crease, is a public document. "This (increase) reflects the job. The wages of the councillors of this town 18 less than the custodians on an hourly rate,»" said Attersley in defense of the increase. "This 18 not a whopping in- crease, the salary reh>ects the job,» said Attersley. Along with their local council §a7, regional councillors (Tom Edards, Joe Drumm, Marcel Brunelle) and Attersley receive $18,023 for sitting on Durham Region council. "T'here 18 a misconception that (councillors) only meet here (municipal building) every Mon- day night. We are often at meet- ing and functions three times a week," said Attersley. He said the increase refleets the added demand on counicillors due to the increasing population 1 h i b y a d D r h à R e i FIRST BEFORE YOU ARRANGE YOUR MORIGAGE FIRSTS, SECONDS HIGH RATIO CONSOLIDATION EOUITY TAKE OUT PROBLEM SITUATIONS MORTOAGES & INVESTMVENTS 25 Thickson Rd.
