Tha game of lacrosse in Dur- ham Begion has "boomed" in popularity the last couple of sea- sons and a record registration of new players is expeted this year, says Whitby M inor Lacrosse executive member Barry Johnson. Johnson says last year's intro- duction of the indoor house league that begins in mid-April an d ends in J une is a major factor in the increase in the game's popularity. "Parents like this idea of not being committed during the holi- day months. Last year 16 teams participated and this year a minimum of 24 will be competing in Whitby, Brooklin and Oshawa arenas," said Johnson. Registration will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Whitby, Brooklin and Oshawa Children's arenas. Johnson says the association will again be organizing a free lacrosse clinic geared to first- time players regardless of age. Derek Keenan of the Ontario Lacrosse Association and a mem- ber of the Brooklin Redmen, as well as other Redmen players will be on hand to help at the clinic.
