Door-to-door visitation began in September 1987, as well as visits to various groups and local government offi- ciais. Interest meetings,and events such as potluck suppers yielded much interest in establishing a Lutheran church, and Peterson said the first service took place on Jan. 17 of last year. The service on Sunday was an officiaI recognition of the congre- gation'. The congregation is currently 165 baptized, and 75 confirmed members, Peterson said, and it continues to grow. The church has a Sunday school for grades 3 to 8, confir- ,mation casses, two youth groups, a junior youth group for grades 5-8 and a Wednesday night Bible studygup The church also suponsors a missionary in El Salvador.
