WHYITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 1989, PAGE 15 'Streetwalk' photo exhibition at McLaughlin 'Ray Rudowski: Streetwalk,' a photo -exhibition, will be at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery March 23 toMay 21 Report: Whi*tby's communities should host own events The Town of Whitby should not host any Canada Day celeb- rations but should promote neighborhood communities to host their own events, states a report from the parks and recreation department. Regional councillor Marcel Brunelle had asked the depart- ment to report on events the Town could host but the report notèd any event would be too expensive and would require staff the Town did not now have. ".a continuation of 'helping people help theniselves' is advo- cated," noted the report. Parks and recreation director Larry Morrow said his depart- ment could act as initiator for activities, and coordinate them between diffrent groups. But he said that would be the limit of degpartment involvement. Bruneile, a member of the ope- rations committee, agreed with Morrow. "We need to do this as a community of communities rather than one great event that would cost a fortune,"~ saici Brunelle. Morrow said it would be too late to coordinate events for 1989.
