Lot levies encouraged FROM PAGE 24 discuss strateg to both convince the provincial government and other, lower growth school boards of the necessity of lot levies to alleviate soaring costs of rapid growth, and declining pro- vincial funding. The Growth Boards Coalition is made uý of the Roman Catho- lic separate school boards and the public boards in the regions of Peel, Halton, York and Dur- ham. On behaîf of the eight boards the Peel Board of Education anâ the Dufferin-Peel Roman Catho- lic Separate School Board will request an emergency meeting with Premier David Peterson. It is hoped that the meeting with the Premier would also in- dlude the ministers of housing, municipal affairs, education, government services and the treasurer who are involved in an interministerial committee to draft the legisiation dealing with lot levies. "It was a very -productive meet- ing.ý The oi*tical agenda is such tht legisiation has beezi drafted and will go forward," Durham representative and Ajax trustee Duncan Read said. "This coalition will be crucial to us getting lot levies, and the decision will be made in the next 45 days. ucWe have asked for a meeting with the premnier's office, an d ministers connected with it. "«(This is the best solution) as there is no mnoney anywhere' else." Oshawa trustee Ruth Lafarga said «Other boards are going to have to realize that they will win (with lot levies)." Other représentatives of the- board were director of educationý Pauline Laing and chairman of the board Lorna Murphy. The coalition represents more than 400.000 students.
