And while the Durham Region separate school board did not get the $100-million it had requested from the Province, it will receive more funding than the public board. The public board will receive $39,560,758 for 13 capital pro- jects, while the separate board will receive $58,692,692 for 20 cap)ital projects. New Whitby schools or projects in the Durham board funding are: - Costain public school, an increased. site allocation, for 1990; - Graywoad public school, site purchase and school construc- tion, site for 1991, schoal ta be canstructed by 1992. Durham separate school board funding includtes:' - land purchase for an elemen- tary school in Durham Heights (unnamed), and construction of the school; - land purchase for an elemen- tary school'(unnamed) on Thick- son Rd., and construction of the school; - funding for child care centers to be located in somne of the new schools. The proposed high school ini Pickering is only funded for phase one, Murphy said, funding only covering $15-million of the $25-million cost. ccWe have no idea how we can build haif a three-story high school. We already have 1,400 the faciliy.Wen do we see the funding for phase two?" she con- tinued. Murphy questioned the reason- ing behind giving the separate board more funding. "It's great that the separate board received (their grant), but no one has explained why they have a greater need. They (the Province) have told us that the funding would even out. It didn't even out this year."
