Hearing awarenèss campaign is on More than 200,000 Canadians rwith a severe or profound hearing loos face barriers to employment that could be easily remedied. Removal of these barriers will be the focus of this year's Hearing Awareness Month capgn organized by The cCanadiant Hearing Society. The campaign, ta' run throughout May, will promote an important message: 'When it comes to, hiring, deaf people, seeing is believing." It is aimed at making employers.and the public aware that deaf people are capable and competent people. who are often frustrated in their desire to reach their potential. Deaf people hold a wide Spectrum of jobs, but too xnany are unemployed or underemplyed. Posters, radio and print ads, information kits and other media will be used ta, urge an end ta eniployment discrimination against deaf pePoleand describe the barriers that can be removed to ensur their full participation in the workforce. The campaign streses that the FAT JOHNSON, rightp resident of the Rotary Club of Whitby-Sunrise, holds a picture of Whitby General Hospital with Ed Buffett, chairman of the hospital's building fund, after the group made a $5,000 donation to the fund. Money was raised from the club's first annual fundraising breaikfast April 5 at Heydenshore Pavillon, which attracted 300. Guest speaker was CF70 sportscaster Joe Tifley.
