Yoshikawa, born in 1949 in Hiroshima,' Japan and now -a Toronto resident, bas exbibited bis work in several solo and group exhibitions in Ontario and British Columbia. His work is included in sucb collections as the Art Gallery of Hamilton and Maclean Hunter. The main theme of Yosbikawa bas been inquiries into attitudes in life, pertaining to. Oriental philosophy. The viewer is con- fronted to analyze and ponder' complicated surroundings through very simple everyday images. The -exhibition is an 'Artist with their Work' program organ- ized by the Art Gallery of, Ontario extension services. The next exhibition at the GaI- lery will be Inuit art, starting June 3. An opening reception will be held Sunday, J une 4, 2to 5 P.m. Painters Eleven art at McLaughlin Gallery. .An exhibition of works by the Canadian artists, -Painters Eleven, opens at the Robert McLjaughlin Gallery on May 26. The exhibition continues until, Oct. 24. Painters Eleven existed as a group for only seven years but the. experimentation by the artists of the group provided a laboratory for later avant-garde trends. The acquisition of works by Jack Bush, Oscar Cahen, Hortense Gordon, Tom Hodgson, Alexandra Luke, Jock Macdonald, Ray Mead, Mazuo Nakamura, Wiliam Roald, Harold Town and Walter Yarwood set the gallery's acquisition policy. The group introduced abstraction to the Ontario art scene in ia significant way. This exhibition will demonstrate each artist's coitribution . to modern art in Canada. A videotape on Paînters Eleven funded by the Ontario Arts Council and wal labels accompany the exhibition.
