At this time last year the Town had issued $50.9-xilion in permits and went on te set a record of more than $205-million in permits. 'I was cautious at the start of the year (about predictions) but nothing seems to be hurting development. Whitby is grow- ing," said Mayor Bob Attersley. The great bulk of permits issued for Ma y were residential permits, totalling $44.1-million. Most were for 279 single family detached homes. A permit was also taken put for 12 town- bouses. The property was previously to be a site for a plaza to be constructe,,d b y another developer in 1987. The Downtown Business Improvement Area opposed the strip plaza plan but later with- drew from presenting objections at the Ontario Municipal Board.
