He was a memnber of the citi- zens' committee forrned in 1962 to investigate the possibility of building a general hospital, and was a memnber of the hospital building committee when it wss under construction. He was a member of the hospi- tai board of governors and served in almost every capacity, includ- ing chairman from 1970-72. He worked at General Motors and then Canada Metals, where he was plant manager of the forging division, until ha estabi- ished the Lofthouse Brass Manu- facturing Co. in Whitby in 1958. He was president since founding the Company.
