It takes two ta three warking days ta instaîl a power sunroof while a manual roof can usually be installed while the custamer waits. Autamotive Sunroo;f also bas a location in Mississauga. 'We are an automotive styling center," said Somani. Deader servicing By Bf cater ;eeraMnager W i d w o o d F o r TOPIC: Why customers should take their cars to thefr dealer for servicing. First and foremost, when purchasing a new car, you receive a bumper-to-bumper, 12-month, 20,000 km warranty that is incorporated into the price of the car. If the customer chooses to take the car to a competitive lube or service centre, there is a risk of not getting what ha.s already been paid for during the original purchase, including the warranty. Secondly, most customers feel that once the car bas reached 20,000 km, they don't have any warranty. Sa they try their local service centre, and again may pay for something that may have already been paid for. AVO1DlNG A HIEAD ON COLLISION High speed head-on collisions are the most violent and most deadly of ail motor vehicle accidents. Often one of the involved drivers is impaired. Sometimes by alcohol, sometimes by drugs and sometimes by just plain fatigue. But there are also many innocent victims. How many times have you read about sober, rested and happy drivers and passengers that were killed or seriously injured because another vehicle crossed the centerline! You might be tempted ta think that "Ites the luck of the draw," "When you time is up, your time is up." Don't believe it. Head-on collisions can be avoided! Last August in the very first 'Driving Safely With Randy'a column, I said that While none of us plan ta become involved in an accident, very few of us activley plan not to become involved in an accident! This is certainly true for head-on collisions. The key ta avoiding a head-on collision is in your abililty to react quickly and appropriately. Head-on collisions generally involve high combined approach speeds. You do not have *time ta think - only te react - and you usually don't get a second chance. The two moât effective ways ta miiniize your reaction time are ta anticipate a-possible collision and plan your escape route in advance. *Head-on collisions can happen anywhere at anytime. However,: there are circ.imstances where this type of accident is more hikely. Acidentai Crossing of the Centre LUne Impaired driving is the most common rmaison for accidentai crossing the centre Uine, and fatigue is the xnoet common form of impairment. Night diving can be a strain- at any -time, but particularly during the summer when many M ARU L S AO M SEIL O A0SRE allow the dealership ta expand its showroom. Nichoîl said the expansion will be behind the dealership and straight back. He is waiting for the Town ta approve the site plan and hopes ta start construction in eithIer Septýember or October. motarists tend ta drive longer distances and vacationers add that extra hour or more onta an already full day of driving. Combined with the hazards of alcohol and drug impaired motorists everyone driving on the hi ghway at night should be more cautiaus. Deliberate Crossing of the Centre Une The most common reason for deliberately crossing the centre Uine is ta pass another vehicle. On a long, fiat straight section of road you should be able ta see a passing manoeuvre well in advance and adjust your speed accordingly ta allow the approaching motorist complete on retreat in safety. Every licensed diver knows, or should know, not ta attempt ta pass when *going over a bill or around a corner. Yet every year many seriaus accidents occur under just these circumstances. Why? Because some very foolhardy motorists are in a hurry. Wben cresting a bill or rounding a curve when there is a lime of veh.iles travelling in the opposite direction assume that someone in the middle of that line will be attempting a passing manoeuvre and will be in your lame accelerating toward you.- What should you do? When faced with a head-on collision your only escape route is ta steer right. Do nat try ta, outguess the other driver and steer left. He or she may regain contraI and pull back inta their, own lane. When you need ta know is how far right you can go and what ta expect wben you get there. As you drive along the highway - day or night - make it a habit ta check the road shoulder. Is it paved or gravel? Is there a ditch? If so, how deep? Are there telephone pales? Io so, how far from the edge of pavement? You don't have ta, and should not be, making, detailed notes. Your first obligation is ta pay attention ta the road and traffic conditions. But, remnember when faced with a head-on collision you will not have time ta, make these judgements, you will have ta rely on your memory and react accordingly. Wbile most anythimg is preferable toaa head-on collision, you really don't want ta bhit that telephone pale if it can be avoided. And if you must drive inta the ditch you will be better able ta, contrai your vehicle if you know where it is and how deep it is. Head-on collisions cmi be avoided. The key elements are anticipation and pre-planned action. You should not ho paranoid but you. should be prepared. les not the luck of the draw.
