A Lynard Skynyrd album, 'Street., Survivors,' released in 1977, had a cover showing the band standing in flames. Very shortly after t he album's release, two of the band members were burned te death in a plane crash. The album was taken off the stands and re-released with a different cover. The original album increased in value. Pilepic says that no copy has ever been found i Canada and it is one of the rarest album covers. Needless to say, it is valuable. One of the most unusual album covers Pilepic bas is by Alice Cooper. The abum is called 'School Desk' and the cover un- folds into a school desk with Alice Cooper's name carved inte the tep of the desk. The record is packaged into a pair of girl's paper panties.> Te album, 'Batman In A Can,' was recently released. Ten thou- sand of the CDs were marketed in a tin can. T he list price is $33, but Pilepic says there are esti- mates that in a few years the album will ba worth between $300 and $400. "If someone wants to buy. today, always buy within the first two or three weeks. The first records always corne out in some kind of picture sleeve. That's always more valuable.» Other potential collector's items are records with picture disks, fold-back covers and pro- motion specials, usually on color vinyl. "Color vinyl is more valuable," says Pilepic -- exce pt in the case of Elvis Presley'sMoody Blue'. It was the I ast release before Presley's death. Because of the titie, consideration was given ta releasing the album on blue vinyl. However, the original was released on the standard black vinyl. After Presley's death, pro- motors saw the record as a real money-maker, especially if released on blue vinyl. Lt was re-released on blue vinyl im- mediately thus making t he ori- ginal blacf vinyl copies rare and more valuable. Pilepic is now organizing bis third record show in Whitby to ha held at Heydenshore Pavilion on Oct. 29. «Collectors and dealers from ail ov'er Ontario will ha there. Lt wiIl ha a chance for people to buy a lot of records cheap. ï.neare will ha a lot of rare collectibles.»' -v mý M6ý
