As t ifth was to be played last night (Tuesday), Quakers and Redmen were tied 2-2 in the best-of-seven series after Quak- ers won both games over the weekend. In a shocker before the home crowd in Brooklin on Saturday night, Quakers won 10- 9 to climb back into the series and end the Redmen consecutive victory streak in Ontario lacrosse at 84. Then on Sunday, Quakers fol- iowed up with an 8-5 win in Peterborouah. Superb goaltending by Craig Milligan and strong overail team piay by Quakers held Redmen te only 14 goals in the two games. Theleages top scorer, Gary Gait of -Redmen, had only one goal in'each game. Meanwhile, four new faces in the Quakers' lineup, ail four from the senior level Fergus Thisties, have contributed much to Quakers' success. For Redmen Derek Keenan scored four goals on Saturday in the 10-9 loss. Blane Harrison scored two goals while John Fusco, Don MacDonald and Gait had the others. On Sunday, Harrison Fusco, Keenan, Gait and Paul ât. John scored for Redmen in their lowest scoring output in some time. G erry Hiltz scored two goals. in each of the Quakers' victories. Re-dnen last week w*on the second game of the series by a -15-8 score as St. John scored four goals and had- two assiste. Gait scored three goals and had four assists while Keenan had three goals and two assists as Redmen threatened to sweep the, series. Bruoe Ogilvie scored twice 'for Quakers and had in each of the third anâ fourth games. The two teams met. for, the fifth game last nighit (Tuesday) in Brooklin and the sixth game is scheduled for 9 p.m. Wednsay in Peterborough. If a seventh game 18 needed, it will be played Friday night in Brooklin, startinff at 8:30 p.m. New West awcats winner The winner ý,ill meet New Westminster, B.C. in the Mann Ouin to start Sept. 6. Nýew Westminster, which lost only three games ail season, swept Coquitlam in four straight in the B.C. best-of-seven final. Geordie Dean, perenially one of the top players in western lacrosse, led New Wes tminster with three goals in the 10-9 win that wrapped up the series. Dean led the west in scoring during the regular season. Coquitlam lost te Redmen in last year's Mann Cup final, a fast, entertaining series held in Whitby. Squirts win 5th tournament. Pringle Creek IGA select squirt soccer team won their fifth tournament of the season over the weekend in Etebicoke. In the West Mail teurnament, Joel Witten scored both goals as Whitby edged Mississauga in the final. Anthony Plastina of Whitby wss named outstanding player of the teurnament. I the first gaime, Whitby defeated Scarborough 3-1 as Wit- ton scored two and Grahamn MacLean one, on a penalty shot. Andrew marsha I and Pieter Meuleman were solid at midfield for Whitby. MacLean, Witten and Jason Eveyn cord in 3-0O win over Maringrove. Ryan Callahan got the shuteut, helped' by the defence of Mathew Paciga, Sean MacRury and Michael Sehleiffer. Witton sQored the only goal in a 1-0 decision over Brampton. Brampton dominated in the firet haîf but were thwarted by the defence of MacRury, Paciga and Sehieiffer. Witten's goal came with only a few minutes remaining te, upset Brampton, teurnament cham- pions for the past four years. Piastina scored twice whiie Witten and Evelyn had sin les in an easier 4-0 win over Wood- bridge. Again, Callahn posted the shuteut with support from Evelyn, Meuleman end Andrew Marshall in midfleld.
