By Trudie Zavadavies A starting date for construction of the expansion of the Whitby Seniors' Activity Centre has not been determined but councillor Tom Edwards *qoesn't expect it will get underway before spring 1991. An~ amended construction pro- gram was approved by the Town operations committee Monday night despite Edwards' attempts to push for a further amiendment to include a starting idate for building. "I'm issatisfied with the lack of time limit. The report doesn't contain any estimate of time," says Edwards. "I want a date so we can set seniors loose on rais- ing dough." (Seniors' centre members have already raised close to $30,000). "People who might contribute aren't. I happen to know two private factors who would contri- bute." The centre will cost an estima- ted $2,100,000, which Edwards says is "within the capacity of the Town and a little less than some estimates. The Ministry of Community and Social Services is aware of the estimated cost and bas indicated possible wil- lingness to fund up to 30 per cent of the costs and the. Minis- try of Tourism and Recreation bas also indicated possible sup- port.. The amended program was prepared.by E.H.E. International Inc.
